Creating and Managing Maps
Overview
Maps (also called System Maps) are collections of frames that describe features, modules, or services. Each map provides an end-to-end view of a specific part of your product or system.
What are Maps?
Maps enable you to:
- Organize by Feature: Group related frames together (e.g., "User Authentication Flow", "Dashboard Analytics")
- Navigate Complex Systems: Break down large features into manageable visual maps
- Link Maps Together: Connect maps using Map Points to create navigation flows
- Collaborate: Share maps with team members for feedback and documentation
Creating a Map
Step 1: Navigate to Maps
- Go to your dashboard
- Click on "Maps" in the sidebar (or navigate to
/dashboard/maps)
Step 2: Create New Map
- Click the "Create Map" button in the top right
- Fill in the map details:
- Name: Give your map a descriptive name (e.g., "User Dashboard", "Checkout Flow")
- Description: Optional description of what this map represents
- Team: Assign the map to a specific team (optional)
- Status: Set initial status (Active, In Progress, etc.)
- Click "Create Map"
Your new map will appear in the maps grid.
Managing Maps

The Maps page displays all your maps in a grid layout. You can:
- Filter by Status: Filter maps by their current status
- Sort: Sort maps by name or creation date
- Search: Use the search bar to find specific maps
Opening a Map
Click on any map card to open it and view its frames.
Editing Map Details
- Click on a map to open it
- Access map settings (usually via an edit icon or settings menu)
- Update the map name, description, team assignment, or status
- Save your changes
Deleting a Map
- Open the map you want to delete
- Access map settings
- Select "Delete Map"
- Confirm the deletion
Warning: Deleting a map will also delete all frames and points within it.
Maps Structure
A Map contains:
- Frames: Visual screens or diagrams uploaded to the map
- Points: Interactive markers on frames (Implementation Points, Map Points, Frame Group Points)
- Metadata: Name, description, team assignment, status
Next Steps
Once you've created a map:
- Add Frames - Upload screens or diagrams to your map
- Add Points - Create interactive points to connect UI to implementation details
- Link Maps Together - Use Map Points to create navigation flows
Best Practices
- Use Descriptive Names: Make map names clear and searchable (e.g., "Payment Processing" not "Map 1")
- Organize by Feature: Group related screens in the same map
- Set Appropriate Status: Keep maps organized with status labels (Active, Archived, In Progress)
- Assign to Teams: Use team assignments to organize maps by ownership
